Points of Unity

We, CJWP (Chin Jurn Wor Ping/Chien Jin He Ping/Moving Forward for Peace), are united in:

1. Encouraging the growth of political consciousness in our communities.

WE KNOW: Developing political consciousness is a continual process of learning, thinking, reflecting, creating, acting, being and becoming.

WE KNOW: The intersections of race, gender, class, sexuality and nation affect us: within CJWP, and also as members of a larger family living in the belly of the beast -- the United States. What dominant society makes as dividing lines we re-make and re-shape into guiding lights. Strength in diversity, strength in unity!

HOW WE DO IT: We encourage the awakening and exercise of our individual and collective powers by maintaining a safe and creative space for doing all that!

2. Being sustainable - "Live to Fight Another Day"

In order to sustain ourselves and the larger movement for peace and JUSTICE! -- we commit to:

  • have fun!!!
  • take care of ourselves and each other
  • become better teachers and students
  • communicate openly
  • share skills and resources, and
  • build community

3. Creating cultures of resistance - Our roots are NOT FOR SALE!

We challenge art as a commodity. Our culture is not for sale!

We see, we be, we make: arts and culture are vital elements of life for communicating, strengthening alliances and building community.

Through our arts, culture, and stories, we talk out our roots, challenge the way things are, envision and revision the way things should be. We stand up against the US cultural hegemony of assimilation, rampant consumerism, apathetic complicity, and competition-driven individualism.

We recover and retell histories. We create art and analysis. This way, we support movements for social change, and increase the visibility of THC/Americans as an organized force of art and resistance.

4. Working in solidarity - !Strength in Unity!

We support the self-determination of all oppressed peoples, and those engaged in resistance against unjust regimes of rule, terror and oppression.

Without justice, there is no peace.
We commit to exposing and using privilege to fight for justice and secure peace at home and abroad. Our local struggles are connected on the world-wide.

We work in solidarity: working with resistance struggles of THC communities in other places, without compromising the rights of self-determination of other historically oppressed groups of people.

Justice for all!
